This is the website of the family Aguilar & Obrador, open to all cyber-travelers, to whom we wish to offer our vision of Majorca, where we live, and the world that surround us, whether it be the closest to us or that which we have been able to witness while traveling abroad. What does embat means?

In Majorca it is well known the meaning of the embat. The Atlas de les Illes Balears by the University of the Balearic Islands gathers it in the following excerpt:

"The recurrence of embat is established daily as a consequence of variations of temperature. The wind blows from sea to land during the hours of maximum sunstroke and its direction is inverted, though with lesser intensity, at nighttime. In Majorca, during the warm season of the year, a regime of embats of marine origin develops converging at the center of the isle, that helps towards a moderation of temperatures and determines the formation of clouds and, occasionally, of precipitations".

Also the dictionaries define the word "embat" as: "Blow produced by the surf on the shore or a ship; push from the wind. In a figurative way it may refer to an thrust, push or impulse".

The use of the word embat in this website is based on these two definitions. This is a word that seduced me when, during the late seventies, while at the beach d'es Trenc, they told me this was the name of the sea breeze which arose at noon, coming from the sea toward the land, to refresh the atmosphere.

It seemed to me, at the time of choosing an Internet domain name for this website, that embat was a word evoking both the physical phenomena as well as the figurative sense, a word used especially in Majorca, the land which I love as my own, a word in short that could serve as the entrance to this website which wants to be a bulletin board in the web of issues interesting Carlos Aguilar, Maria Lluïsa Obrador, Laura Aguilar, Albert Aguilar, and all the friends and peers with whom we share dreams and projects.
